Tips and Tricks

Everyone:

The fifth meeting of the Canon Owners of the Bay Area (COBA) user group will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) from 7:30-11:00 pm.

In order to appeal to the diverse group of photographers, the fifth meeting will feature user-led presentations on tips for maximizing the use of one’s camera and for taking better photographs.

Tips Presentations

Examples of user-contributed tips include:

D30/D60 Tips

  • C.Fn 2: Moving AF to the FEL/* button
  • C.Fn 12: Using the Set button to adjust ISO settings
  • Auto-Focus tips in low-light

1D Tips

  • RAW/JPEG mode
  • C.Fn 4: Moving AF to the FEL/* button
  • Image info/histogram on auto review

Tips for taking better photographs

  • Rule of thirds
  • Use of negative space
  • Converging lines
  • Manual exposure in theatre/concert situations

Initially, we will break up the meeting into two groups, one for D30/D60 users and another for 1D users. Afterwards, we’ll reconvene to talk about general photography tips that will be useful for all photographers.

We will also use the COBA Forums to post these tips before the July 17 meeting. This way, people familiarize themselves with the tips before they are presented at the meeting.
