Black and White Photography and Camera Bags
The July meeting of the Camera Owners of the Bay Area (COBA) user group will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) from 7:30-10:30 pm.
Black and White Photography
Uwe and Bettina Steinmueller of Digital Outback Photo will discuss black and white photography.
Recently we started looking into B&W again. We always loved the power of abstraction that B&W provides. But we might not be alone in the observation that working in Color and B&W is a very different thinking and more importantly feeling.
In fact during the process of creating good B&W photos we get distracted by any color we see (especially of the same photo). What we want to do is thinking in B&W only.
Uwe and Bettina will discuss color conversion techniques using Capture One and Photoshop. Steinmueller will also cover black and white printing techniques using Epson printers.
Show and Tell: Camera Bags
Bring in your camera bag or bags for COBA members to look at and evaluate. Everyone has their own preference for what they are looking for in a camera bag:
- Capacity. Can it hold everything I have? Can it hold just what I need?
- Usability. Can I work from the bag?
- Portability. Does my bag look like a camera bag?
- Durability. Will this bag outlive me?
- Price. How much is this going to cost me?
So, whether you carry your camera in a diaper bag, Domke, LowePro, Tamrac, or Billingham bag, we’d like to see it at the next COBA meeting!
Tips and Tricks
We will continue to have a small presentation on tips and techniques for
improving your photography skills. See the COBA forum for more information on
the tips and tricks we’ll cover in this presentation.
Photo Showcase
Members are also encouraged to bring in their favorite photographs that they’ve taken with their digital camera. Please write down your shooting technique and compositional notes on the back of the image or on a separate piece of paper. This is an excellent opportunity to receive constructive criticism, suggestions, and praise from other COBA members.
