Macro and Tripods

The April 2004 meeting of the Camera Owners of the Bay Area (COBA) user group will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) from 7:30-10:30 pm.

Macro Photography

This month, we will examine the wonderful world of macro photography. Topics that will be discussed include equipment, lighting, and technique.

As it turns out, I don’t have any macro lenses! I’m hoping that COBA members do and would be willing to bring in their macro equipment for the meeting.

For instance, the following would be most useful (Canon gear listed below as an example):

  • 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro
  • MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro
  • 100mm f/2.0 Macro
  • 180mm f/3.5L Macro
  • Life-size converters
  • Extension Tubes
  • Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX
  • Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX

We will use the television screen to review images shot from the camera.

Tripods

A good tripod and head are useful when shooting macro, landscapes, and formals. We will cover the materials used in tripods (aluminum, carbon, etc.), the different types of tripod heads, and tripod/camera techniques for maximizing image quality.

If you have a tripod, please bring it to the meeting so we can compare it with the others!
